335 words trying to fix things after the cut:
Fixing the World
"Fuck!"
Ciri had not killed the villagers.
It wasn't the first time by far that she had wanted to, but. There were the teachings of Vesemir of what a Witcher was and what a Witcher wasn't. And there were the stories the Wolves had shared with her about their paths and transgressions, the cruelties they'd witnessed. And there was Ciri's own past descent into becoming a heartless criminal.
But why was she doing this. Who was she doing it for if not for the innocent victims. She had failed this one. She had killed the monster but lost the fight nevertheless.
"No." Ciri got up from the ditch she'd heaved into and blew a strand of hair out of her face. She had long ago learned to rather accept imperfect outcomes - that most often there were no perfect outcomes she could chase, and that while she was trying to fix one thing she missed out on helping with ten others. But this wasn't just an imperfect win, it was unacceptable.
"Witcher! Whose coin did you ta-" Kicking the murderous bastard in the groin wasn't the same as slaughtering a village; it was absolutely permissable.
This time the girl squeaked a little when Ciri's hand came down on her shoulder. Time was funny like that, a little different every time.
"Do you know what cats do when they're in danger?" Ciri spoke urgently but tried to convey a sense of steadfast encouragement. Like Geralt had when she'd met him the first time. "Do you think you can climb up that tree over there, the tall one?"
"Nay, I have to save the village!" the girl sobbed.
"Save yourself! Climb, girl, like a cat! Don't get down before I'm back and tell you to. DON'T run back to the village by yourself!"
The girl nodded. She hadn't even caught her name.
The Lady of Time and Space watched her climb the tree while she kicked back a Cat potion. Alright. Time for that monster to die again.
